Back to Ours are Looking for a New Chair or Co-Chairs

Back to Ours are recruiting a new Chair - or Co‑Chairs - to help guide the organisation through an exciting period of growth.

 

They are an independent charity and an Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation, creating outstanding arts and cultural experiences with communities across Hull. The Chair/Co‑Chairs will work closely with the Board of Trustees, Artistic Director & CEO Louise Yates BEM FRSA, staff team, Hub Members, volunteers, artists, partners and local communities to support the organisation’s strategic direction, sustainability and impact.

 

This role offers the chance to shape one of Hull’s leading community arts organisations at a moment of real momentum. They’re seeking someone with strategic leadership, curiosity, care and sound judgement. Experience as a Chair, Trustee or senior leader is welcome, as is relevant experience in arts, culture, community engagement, fundraising, partnerships or governance.

 

They are also open to a Co‑Chair model and encourage applications from those interested in collaborative shared leadership.

 

They're looking for someone who:

  • Believes in arts and culture as a force for connection and community

  • Understands, or is willing to learn about, charity governance

  • Can support and challenge constructively

  • Bring strong communication and relationship‑building skills

  • Is committed to diversity, equity and inclusion

  • Is curious about community‑led practice and participation

  • Can think strategically while staying rooted in Back to Ours’ values

  • Knowledge of Hull’s communities is welcome but not essential
