Hull’s much loved sidewinder trawler, the Arctic Corsair, is about to make one last historic journey. On Friday 14 August, she’ll travel from Albert Dock to her new permanent home at North End Shipyard, where she’ll be safely dry berthed for future generations to explore.
This carefully planned move depends on the right mix of tides, weather and river conditions, with timings reviewed throughout the day to keep the operation running smoothly. The Corsair will set off at around 5.45am, heading along the Humber before turning up the River Hull - a moment that marks the closing chapter of her sailing life.
To guide her upriver, several bridges - Millennium Footbridge, Myton Bridge, Scale Lane Footbridge and Drypool Bridge - will open in sequence. Drivers may experience short delays, so planning ahead is advised.
The move brings together multiple partners and agencies, all working within a tight high tide window to ensure the vessel can be manoeuvred safely into dry dock.
