Freedom Festival has released its full 2026 programme, confirming more than 130 experiences across four days from 3-6 September. This year’s theme, Peace, will shape performances and installations delivered by 32 companies representing nine countries, transforming public spaces across Hull.
The 2026 edition marks the return of large scale evening events, with audiences invited to experience A.I. Thentic by Gorilla Circus - a major outdoor production combining aerial spectacle with reflections on technology and human connection.
Across the weekend, the programme offers work for a wide range of audiences. Families can enjoy playful shows such as Rhinos, Baby Brain, Lilliput and Kismat Walla. Those interested in more reflective experiences will find installations like The Hate Circuit and Through the Ruins, alongside powerful dance work including Black. High energy performances return too, with appearances from Always Drinking Marching Band, the acrobatic robot Acrobot, and the trio Tom, Tom and Tom.
Circus remains central to Freedom Festival’s identity. Highlights include 10,000 Hours at Hull Truck Theatre, the ladder acrobatics of Beyond by Circumstances, and the dramatic wheel of death performance Spinsane by Racehorse Company.
Many events will be free or free ticketed, supporting accessibility while helping manage capacity. As always, the festival will reimagine Hull’s streets, squares and green spaces as places to gather, participate and explore - whether visitors drop in for a single show or spend the whole weekend discovering new work.
