Artlink Hull | 87 Gallery has unveiled Bodies Showing Power, a striking new exhibition by London based visual artist Nancy Clayton, running from 17 July to 12 September 2026. Created in collaboration with Intoart - a leading organisation supporting learning disabled and autistic artists - the exhibition brings an energetic, immersive installation to Hull that centres Disability, shared creativity and artistic resistance.

Clayton’s practice is rooted in movement. Her large scale drawings, paintings and sculptural installations grow from observing bodies in action and working closely with other Disabled artists, including dancer Sophia Moore and writer researcher Paul Christian. Together, they shape bold figurative works that highlight joy, solidarity and the everyday power of Disabled experience, while challenging narrow portrayals often seen in contemporary art.

At the core of the exhibition is a reconstructed studio space filled with naturally dyed textiles suspended from towering structures. Visitors step into a maze of colour and texture, where drawing, painting, film and photography capture fleeting gestures - a leg supported by mobility aids, hands gripping a lectern mid speech, or a playful double leg kick.

Clayton’s commitment to sustainability runs throughout the installation. She uses botanical dyes, natural pigments and carefully sourced materials, reflecting her belief that caring for people and caring for the planet go hand in hand. The exhibition imagines futures where biodiversity, community and creativity are equally valued.

Founded in 2000 and based in Peckham, Intoart champions learning disabled and autistic artists through commissions, collaborations and major exhibitions across the UK and internationally. Their work centres equity, visibility and social justice - values that shape every part of Bodies Showing Power.
