The community owned pub, The New Clarence is marking its first birthday on 1 September at 6.30pm, and it's opening its doors to locals, regulars and supporters for an evening of celebration.
Once boarded up and facing closure, the pub was brought back to life by 600 local owners through the Hull Community Pub Society. Since reopening in 2025, it’s become a busy, welcoming space and even earned CAMRA’s national Pub Saving Award for its community led rescue.
Now, the society is working towards its next milestone: completing a fully accessible function room upstairs - a new city centre space designed for weddings, gigs, meetings, comedy nights and more. A lift is already installed, and the final phase of renovation is underway.
So far, £60,900 has been raised towards a £100,000 target, supported by £25,000 match funding from the Community Shares Booster Fund. Shares start from £100, giving anyone the chance to become an owner and help finish the project. The crowdfunder runs until 6 September 2026.
The first anniversary party will open its doors at 6:30pm on 1 September - whether you're a member, regular or just curious, everyone is welcome.
