Hull's DJ scene is full of people with brilliant music collections, interesting tastes and plenty to share. And thanks to Venn Radio, there's now another place for them to do just that!
The independent online station brings together DJs, selectors and music lovers from across the city, giving people the chance to share their favourite sounds and introduce listeners to something new.
Venn was set up by four local music enthusiasts, Kat Fairplay, Mike Aistrop, Dayle Credland and Jack Rimmington, who had a pretty simple idea: Hull's music scene is great, so why not give it a radio station of its own?
And they've done exactly that!
Even the name has a Hull connection, taking inspiration from Hull born mathematician John Venn, best known for the Venn diagram. It's a fitting name for a station bringing different people and musical tastes together.
From soul, house and electronica to jungle, ambient and everything in between, there's a real mix of music to get stuck into. Whether you're after something familiar or fancy discovering your next favourite DJ, there's plenty to explore.
It's not just DJs getting involved either. Venn also gives airtime to community groups, independent businesses and venues, with shows including Warren Records Takeover and Women United By Sound. It's a great way of bringing different parts of Hull's creative community together and sharing what people are passionate about.
There's a lovely community side to the project too. Venn Radio is run as a Community Interest Company, with an aim of supporting music education in the region. The team has also chosen to support Friends of the Albemarle, which raises money for activities at Hull's Albemarle Music Centre.
You can tune in every Friday and Saturday from 3pm until midnight, and if you miss a show, they're available afterwards on SoundCloud.
And here's the best bit: if you've got a record collection you'd love to share or an idea for a show, Venn wants to hear from you! Whether you're an experienced DJ or just someone who loves putting music together, it's all about getting involved and sharing what you love.
It's great to see another project bringing people together through music in Hull, and I'm looking forward to hearing what comes next.
