The Humber Mountaineering Community (HMC) is preparing for its biggest challenge of the year - the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge - all in support of HEY Mind, a charity offering vital mental health support across Hull and East Yorkshire. Since beginning their journey in October 2021 as BDG Mountaineering, the group has grown into a dedicated community of hikers and climbers.
In October 2025, they transitioned into the Humber Mountaineering Community, reflecting their wider mission to bring people together through outdoor challenges. Across seven countries, they’ve completed over 70 climbs, raised £7,000 for 12 charities and five local firms, and attracted support from Hull Live, BBC Radio Humberside, and local figures including Dean Windass, Jessie Roux, and Calum Scott. Their most notable achievement came in 2024, when they reached Everest Base Camp, raising £3,100 for Alzheimer’s Society.
This year, HMC has chosen HEY Mind as their charity partner - a decision shaped by the experiences of many within the community. Several participants have either faced mental health challenges themselves or supported someone who has. So far, the community has raised £700 through two climbs: Whernside and Ben Nevis On Saturday 10 October, HMC will take on the Yorkshire Three Peaks - a demanding 9 -10 hour route through the Yorkshire Dales, covering three peaks of roughly 700 metres each.
This challenge will bring together volunteers from all backgrounds, including members of Hike and Soul and Wala Wellbeing. The climb is an opportunity to raise awareness of mental health, encourage open conversations, and support HEY Mind’s ongoing work.
Every donation contributes directly to helping people across the region access the support they need. If you’d like to explore the community’s journey, you can find out more about the Humber Mountaineering Community via their Instagram or donate to their fundraiser here.
