Climate Playwriting Competition Offers £15,000 Prize
Shakespeare’s Globe has opened applications for a new Climate Playwriting Prize, created with partners Climate Spring and Fern Culture. The award champions bold, imaginative writing that tackles the climate and nature crisis, inviting UK based playwrights and theatre makers to submit original, full length scripts that haven’t yet been produced.
The prize encourages writers to explore the climate conversation from any angle - environmental, social, political or cultural - with a focus on expanding how theatre can engage audiences in creative, meaningful ways.
One writer will be selected for a £15,000 award, along with tailored dramaturgical support and industry development opportunities to help shape the script into a rehearsal ready draft, with potential for future production.
Applicants should have some professional experience and a clear commitment to script based storytelling, whether in theatre, radio or screen. The support package is designed to help the winning writer refine their work and connect with networks linked to the prize.
Applications close on 1 September 2026.
