Giroscope Hull to Launch Global Photography Competition

The Alec Gill and Giroscope International Photography Competition will invite photographers from Hull, the UK and around the world to explore its first year theme: HOME. At its core, the competition celebrates visibility - the people, places and everyday moments that shape how we understand where we come from.

Although Giroscope is rooted in West Hull, the competition welcomes entries from photographers everywhere. Participants are encouraged to interpret the theme in their own way, whether through familiar streets, family stories, community spaces or the quiet details that define daily life.

Submissions will open soon, with a closing date of 30 October 2026. Shortlisted and winning photographs will be showcased in a public exhibition at St Matthew’s Community Enterprise Centre in March 2027, forming part of Giroscope’s 40th anniversary celebrations.

The competition includes two categories:

  • Adult category (18+): £5 entry fee for up to two submissions, with a £500 prize

  • Young people’s category (17 and under): £2 entry fee for up to two submissions, with a £300 photography equipment award

Full entry details will be available via the Giroscope website.
