The Place Seeks Artists for Outdoor Performance 2027 Commission
£20,000 award supports new outdoor performance work for children aged 5-11
The Place has opened applications for its Stomping Ground call out linked to The Playground Tour Summer 2027. The offer provides a commission for a new outdoor performance designed to engage children aged 5 to 11 and to be presented in schools, festivals and public spaces.
One artist will be selected to create a short solo or duet with a strong movement element. The commissioned work must be ready to premiere in May 2027 and will tour for five weeks during June and July 2027 as part of The Playground Tour.
The package includes a £20,000 commission, up to two weeks of in-kind studio space at The Place, opportunities to test and share the work with children, and creative and producing support. The commission is intended to cover development, rehearsal and production costs for creating the new work.
Applications are open to UK-based artists with an established creative practice and experience of making and presenting high-quality work. Applicants may be dance artists or from other disciplines, provided the proposed piece has a strong movement element.
